Internships and Job Placement

The Technology and Policy Program values work experience. Since 1996, TPP has had a formal internship program to help its students obtain relevant positions and to assist them in procuring the funding necessary to make this key educational opportunity a reality.
TPP Program Administrator Sydney Miller coordinates the TPP internship program. Using information provided by students seeking internships, previous knowledge of employers, and searches of numerous job sources, she helps students identify internships that are relevant to their field of study and/or their career plans. While a student interested in water resources, for instance, might not work in that particular field, he or she might work in a state senator's office and thus gain invaluable experience in legislative process and public policy. TPP provides internship resources and maintains a database of contacts and a library of materials from possible internship companies and agencies.
Students returning from summer internships report to the Technology and Policy Program and provide a formal presentation in the Internship Seminar class for the students who will be seeking internships in the coming year.
The goal of the internships is to provide students with the practical knowledge essential to understanding policy, which is very difficult to gain in an academic setting. Internships enable both students and employers to learn more about each other. Summer internship positions have often led to permanent job offers for TPP students upon graduation from the Program.
Over the past years, Technology and Policy Program students held internships in the federal government, private industry, consulting firms and numerous international organizations. Below is a list of recent TPP internships.
