Technology and Policy Program students participate in various research projects throughout the Institute to develop new technical possibilities while at the same time contributing to the creation of a policy-making system in which these innovations will be used intelligently.

Most TPP students work as a Research Assistant (RA) within an MIT lab or center to fund tuition and living expenses. TPP students are allowed and encouraged to work for any of the Institute’s Departments and Professors, both with and without TPP or ESD affiliation. There are a number of MIT centers that commonly hire TPP students for projects, which can be found using the links below. The Center for Technology Policy and Industrial Development (CTPID) has a number of programs that typically interest TPP students, such as the Lean Aerospace Initiative, Materials Systems Laboratory, and Internet and Telecoms Convergence. Other popular centers for TPP students are the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment, Center for Transportation and Logistics, and Sloan School of Management. Many students also work directly for MIT departments, such as Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. A full list of opportunities can be found at MIT’s listing of research labs, centers, and programs.
