OSTP Symposium (May 1, 2001)
TPP's first annual symposium on science and technology policy was a day-long conference held on Tuesday, May 1st, 2001 in the Wong Auditorium. This inaugural event marked the 25th anniversary of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). In the morning, many of the former Presidential Science Advisers spoke about the issues they faced while in office. After lunch, a number of distinguished speakers took a prospective look at some of the issues in science and technology policy that the new head of OSTP will face. Cosponsored by the Sloan Foundation, the MIT President's Office, the MIT Engineering Systems Division, and the MIT Technology and Policy Program, the symposium was a great success, attracting a wide audience. The unique gathering gave attendees a chance to hear from people who have been at the nexus of critical issues in science and technology policy for over three decade of US history. The proceedings for the symposium can be accessed online as a PDF file. If you would like to order a bound copy of the proceedings, please send a check for $10 to: Technology and Policy Program; Attn: OSTP-W; 77 Massachusetts Ave., Room E40-215; Cambridge, MA 02139. The agenda (PDF). is also available here.
