This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, Office of Safety, Energy and Environment, Environment Team. The Environmental Protection Specialist is responsible for: developing and coordinating policies, procedures and programs related to environment and transportation within DOT and with other Federal departments and agencies; reviewing environmental documents and recommending action on the most complex and environmentally controversial of transportation projects and activities proposed or assisted by the Department; and initiating and monitoring research and studies on environmental issues relating to transportation.
